Hojo Tokishige (北条時茂)

Tokishige HOJO (1240 - February 25, 1270) was a member of the Hojo Clan, who lived during the mid-Kamakura Period. He was the third son of Shigetoki HOJO and the first generation of the Hojo clan (Tokiwa line). His official court rank was Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). Sakon no shogen (Lieutenant of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards). Mutsu no kuni no Kami (Governor of Mutsu Province).

He was commonly known as MUTSU Yashiro. Under the order of Tokiyori HOJO, he hold the position of Shugo (provincial constable) in both Settsu Province and Wakasa Province. In March 1254, he was appointed to Kozamurai dokoro betto (a chief in an office of officers to guard Shogun in attendance), succeeding to the position of Sanetoki HOJO. Thanks to his elder brother Nagatoki HOJO's appointment as a hyojoshu (a member of Council of State) in July 1256, he was appointed to Kitakata (Northern Chief) of Rokuhara Tandai (an administrative and judicial agency in Rokuhara, Kyoto), and went up to Kyoto, substituting his brother (Nagatoki), and since then, he took care of the post of Tandai (administrative and judicial agency) during 14 years until he died young on February 25, 1270 at the age of 31.
